• Except for Refining, oil processing is limited to the following processes, normally done in the field:
    • Free Water Knockout(s) (FWKO)
    • Separation (de-gassing)
    • Metering
    • Satellite Packages (combining Separation and Metering)
    • Treating (for water removal) Horizontal or Vertical, Packed or Electrostatic (usually with chemicals - Chem-electric treater)
    • Desalting
    • Produced water de-oiling by filtration or induced gas flotation

  • In remote areas, a Topping plant to produce Diesel from crude oil is also economic. Topping Plants are not meant to replace Refineries. It is not practical to produce commercial gasoline with a Topping Plant, but they can also produce Aviation Fuel. Topping Plants can process 100 B/D to 20,000 B/D in skid mounted processing units. Hysys/Hysim is utilized to simulate Topping Plants. A standard D-86 distillation curve and the required Diesel specifications is all that is required. No power units available.
